Sometimes I like to torture myself by imagining what my favorite classic movies would look like, were they remade today. (Don't judge me)
Here's the Back to the Future remake.
Starring:
Either Donald Glover or Andrew Garfield as Marty McFly
Melissa McCarthy as Doc Emma Brown
Seth Rogen and Kristen Wiig as Marty's parents
Jay Courtney as Biff Tannen
J.K. Simmons as Mr. Strickland
Like in the original, Marty goes back 30 years and meets his parents when they were his age. Since the movie takes place in 2015, Marty goes to the year 1985, which is sorta meta. The time machine is a 2015 Ford Mustang and upon seeing it for the first time in the 80s, Emma Brown remarks: "Jeez and I thought by 2015 we'd have flying cars" (WINK! WINK!). Speaking of Emma Brown, in this version she is the same age as Marty's parents and instead of a mad scientist, she's the school geek with a knack for computers and physics. A recurring 1985 gag will be, that Emma thinks Marty is trying to hook up with her, which results in funny/awkward flirting and fart jokes. Biff is pretty much still Biff, only this time he's a jock from a more affluent background (his dad has a Ford dealership) and he drives a Fox Body Mustang. The pivotal scene is still the "Enchantment Under The Sea" dance, but in this version Marty has to replace the DJ. Since he brought his Samsung Galaxy from the future, he starts off by playing some new wave and then switching to dub step. After seeing the bewildered crowd he remarks: "I guess you guys aren't ready for that, yet. But your kids are gonna love it." (WINK! WINK!) In the end, Marty saves Emma brown from the North Koreans instead of the Libyans.

Fans of the original will be outraged. I'm a bit tired of the 'chick flick in everything' cliche nowadays, but a part in me wants to see it happen.

That mustang looks like a knockoff of the version in the remake of Knight rider. UNLESS..
It IS one of the cars used.

Of course not. I just wanted to show how terrible a remake would be.

Correct! I think it's a knock-off. I was looking if anybody on the internet ever came up with renders of a DeLorean style Mustang time machine, but there weren't any. So I took the next best thing.

No way for a remake to leave the production studio not-ruined.

As bad as it would be, I'm pretty sure I'd watch it.

Figured so. From what I saw, the 'new' TV series looked bland.

I imagined it as less of a remake and more of something that happened in an alternate universe where the original wasn't made in 1985. Looking at it that way, I kind of liked it. A lot.

I quite liked it actually. Season 1 over time got a little drab, but the cliffhanger at the end meant that Season 2 at least had a better plot. I prefer it if remakes don't stick /that/ close to the original.

Thank you. I once left my well paying, secure job to become a filmmaker. I was very unsuccessful. Maybe I should go with the Bttf remake next time.

Not a 2015 Mustang!
I realize this is mostly a joke, but... if there was a Back to the Future car there are so many more cars that would fit the bill better... The Alpha Romero 4C comes to mind.

I'm sorry but I think this wouldn't be the best remake, I'm not a fan of the "love story in everything" that you applied here, as well as the geeky/nerdy girl. Also a Mustang would be WAAAYYY too common. I'm not a fan of the casting either, I'm not sure about Seth Rogen either :/ (I apologise for my pickiness).
BUT, I'm also wondering of what a remake of BTTF would look like, I'm quite eager to see what Ghostbusters 3 will look like (Honestly, I just want to know what Ecto-X will be).
But back to BTFF, the remake. Part 1, the actors.
J.K. Simmon could give us a nice Strickland.
For Doc Brown I think Stalan Skarsgard could be nice, or they could go all out and cast Christopher Lloyd's nephew, Sam Lloyd (who used to play Ted on Scrubs). Or Woody Harrelson. Or Michael Keaton.
For Marty's parents, I'm not sure about Rogen and Wig, they might be a bit too old for the role (Crispin Glover and Lea Thompson were both in their 20's for part 1). We need someone young-ish, that can easily transform in a highschooler. I thought about Anna Kendrick, but I'm not sure anymore. Michael Cera could suit well the 1955 George personna. Other than that I'm quite clueless on that. Or Even Peters could be even better as George McFly (he played in both Kick Ass movie, as well as Quicksilver in the latest X-Men).
Jay Courtney could be a nice Tannen, he may not look dumb enough though. Or they could use Channing Tatum, he looks dumb enough. I like the idea of the Ford dealership. Doesn't Biff drives a Ford in 1955 ?
As for Marty, I think you were spot on with Donald Glover. I had thought of Tom Felton (Draco in Harry Potter). Anyway, I think Donald Glover is a great pick.
Part 2, the car.
It's a tough choice. The Delorean from BTFF, was really a great movie car, it looked the part, it was unusual enough, it was cheap, crappy, and wonderful at the same time. I thinks it fits Doc Brown perfectly. I think the Mustang is a too good car to endorse the time machine role. And the design is timeless, which is awesome for a time machine. It's hard to find a car, that's sold (or was) in the US that can fulfill the roll of the DeLorean. If the VW XL1 was available, it could have been a great contender for the role.
Part 3, the story.
I think , as you said, we should stick to the original story. I'd keep Marty as a member of rock band and not a DJ. Cue the late 80's/early 90's rock during the dance. And I don't want any innuendo/pseudo geeky/nerdy stuff, it's too cliché I think, and too esay also.
Sorry for the long posts ^^"

Yes ! The 4C would be a neat replacement for the DeLorean. It's not too common, it has its flaws and has character. Great one.

I also thought of Fisker, because they went bankrupt and it would serve as a nice analogy to DeLorean. If I'm not mistaken, Bttf used the DeLorean because they didn't have the money to licence a Big-3 car. Obviously today it's the other way around and companies would throw themselves at the producers in order to place their product in the Bttf remake. That's why eventually, I went with Ford (and also Samsung).

Hey no problem about the long post and I like all of your points. The idea behind my concept was not what I'd like a new Bttf to - because I don't want anybody to mess with the original- it was more a question of what it would look like, if remade today. But still, I like that this inspired you to come up with your own take.

Oh in this case, of a film made today, you were really spot on with the story. Maybe not on the phone though. And I'm sure there would be a scene comparing Marty's smartphone (let's say an iPhone 6+ or a Note) and Emma Brown's Motorola Dynatac (because of course she would have one of the first mobile phone ever).

First draft was an iPhone but Apple doesn't do product placement if I'm correct, so Marty would use a Samsung or Windows Phone. But the comparison is really cool. Hell, he could even compare it to her computer.

I thought a big part of it was he really wanted something unique and futuristic too, and the DeLorean and its stainless steel construction fit the bill...
On the Fisker... Use Bieber's chrome wrapped Karma?

I would cry if they remade a P.C. bullshit "The Dukes of Hazzard" today. Featuring a Nissan Leaf as the General Grant.

I think you need to go younger for Marty's parents. The actors in the original film were the same age as Michael J. Fox, because it's really easy to make a 20-something look middle aged with makeup, but its impossible to make someone in their 40s look like a teenager.

Someone proposed Michael Cera and Anna Kendrick. I think Cera is just the kind of guy to play George McFly. On the other hand I don't really know Kendrick or any movie she's been in. So maybe Emma Stone?

Sadly it isn’t a knock off. That was the “Attack K.I.T.T.” car. Then again, that whole show was a knockoff of the original.

See that’s the problem. If you want to remake a show from the 80’s you gotta take the 80’s drug of choice. NBC producers went with 90’s drugs however and took a big hit from the crack pipe.

2015 would have been a good year for a remake, but to late now. Next best is if, heaven forbid, Donald Trump gets elected president. At least then we can have a seen with The Doc saying, Trump is President, the business man?
